An itinerary for ecotourism lovers and nature enthusiasts that wish to experience this remarkable landscape on horseback.

You will ride east into the Villuercas Geopark (UNESCO), enjoying the picturesque villages of the Villuercas Mountains and unique fauna such as giant birds of prey.

Ride through interesting landscapes like the Dehesa pastures and Mediterranean holm and cork oak forest.

About The Ride

Progressive ride with five days exciting riding between the lovely town of Trujillo and Guadalupe.

This historical adventure on horseback starts in Trujillo, the area that raised Spain's most notorious New World conquistadors in the early 16th century.

Trujillo is full of marvelous baroque and Renaissance architecture and flourishing gardens bursting with colour.

On this ride, you will trek through the mountain towns of the Villuercas on your way to the UNESCO world heritage village of Guadalupe -with its impressive Monastery from the 14th century.

The journey

Day 1 Madrid Airport – Trujillo

A private transfer is organized for 3 pm at Madrid airport. You will be transported 2.5 hours’ drive to Trujillo where you are encouraged to spend some time enjoying this spectacular Iberian village before meeting your hosts for dinner at the hotel to learn about the ride and region on a map.

Day 2 TRUJILLO-MADROÑERA

After breakfast, we transfer you to the stables to meet your horse for the week. You will take a picturesque ride through the "Dehesa", the typical landscape of southern and central Spain to get to know your equine partner for the week. The Dehesa is utilised primarily for grazing livestock, but also for hunting game, picking mushrooms, honey, cork, and firewood. The Dehesa is an anthropogenic system that provides not only a variety of foods but also a unique habitat for endangered species such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish Imperial eagle. After lunch on the trail, you will ride over flat terrain to Madroñera for a nights stay and a delicious dinner in a rural hotel. Expected time in the saddle: 5 hours.

Day 3 MADROÑERA-ZORITA

Departure after breakfast, you ride along an old cattle trail that goes all the way to Zorita. Captivating riding in the morning with many opportunities for canters in the Dehesa, where sheep, cattle, goats and Iberian pigs. Enjoy a relaxing picnic in the countryside before riding to the village of Zorita. Dinner and night’s stay at a charming rural Inn. Expected time in the saddle: 5 hours.

Day 4 ZORITA-LOGROSÁN A lovely day riding following an old railway track started one hundred years ago and never finished due to the Spanish Civil War. Along the ride, you will see the abandoned buildings that would have served the area if the war hadn't disrupted the completion of the line. During the trip, you will enjoy outstanding views over the impressive Villuercas Mountains landscape. Dinner and a relaxing nights rest at a rural hotel. Expected time in the saddle 5 hours.

Day 5 LOGROSÁN-CAÑAMERO Leave after breakfast to meet the horses and set off through the vineyards of Cañamero, famous in Spain for excellent wines and olive oil. Here the landscape changes to that of the Villuercas mountains, and you will observe the Ruecas river canyon, and it's a unique landscape. Dinner and your nights rest at a lovely rural hotel. Expected time in the saddle: 5 hours.

Day 6 CAÑAMERO-GUADALUPE

For your final ride, you will enjoy a short but fascinating ride from Cañamero to Guadalupe on the Cañada Real trails. Here you can enjoy the Villuercas scenery and observe Vultures, Eagles, Azure-winged Magpies, Red-billed Choughs, Shrikes and Ravens on the way to a delicious lunch in the countryside. Expected time in the saddle 4 hours. Horses go back to their stables in a truck while you have the afternoon to visit the magnificent Guadalupe township and Monastery. Dinner and night's accommodation at the Guadalupe Monastery Hotel overlooking a pretty valley surrounded by lofty mountains (Villuercas).

Day 7 GUADALUPE – MADRID AIRPORT

After breakfast, depart from Guadalupe at 10 am in time for flights that depart from 2 pm onwards. If you need to arrive in Madrid earlier, we can arrange a private transfer for you (at an extra cost).
